Floridan Shark Attacks
BOY ATTACKED BY SHARK
A teenage boy has been attacked by a shark in Florida - just two days after a 14-year-old girl died when she was mauled in the same waters.
The boy, whose identity has not been released, was airlifted to hospital after being bitten in Cape San Blas, off Florida's Panhandle.
He is said to be in a critical condition with severe injuries and was treated at Bay Medical Centre in Panama City.
The attack follows the death of young Jamie Daigle just 80 miles south of the area, in Walton County on Saturday.
The teenager had been swimming on a boogie board with a friend around 100 yards from the shore when a 6ft Bull shark tore into her leg.
Paramedics and an air ambulance crew were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead in hospital.
A 20-mile stretch of beach was closed to the public but later reopened with double the number of lifeguards on patrol.
Florida had the largest number of documented shark attacks worldwide last year with 31.
